"Marching" up to Bempton Cliffs (Gannet Life)

Gannets on Staple Newk

The last time I went to Staple Newk it was white with snow, now it is white with Gannet, ready to start their breeding season! It is not anywhere near full yet! Gannets are increasing in numbers on a daily basis and will eventually reach c27000 birds, c3% of the British population of c293,000 pairs! Had it not been for the Gannets, there would've been little on the cliffs today, with all of the Auks departed back to the sea and also fewer Fulmars.

The first three images are taken handheld with Sony RX10 mk4. The remainder handheld with Canon 7D mk2 and 400mm 5.6 prime lens.

Staple Newk

Sky pointing usually indicates movement or flight. This can mean being attacked with razor sharp bills of fellow Gannets

One of the few "ringed" Gannets at Bempton

Squabbles between pairs are common

And at Bartlett Nab

Failed attempt at mating!

Please stay safe on your LOCAL exercise walk in nature.
