RSPB Bempton Cliffs - 31st October 2021

Well what a morning ⛆⛆⛆! I have to say that rain stopped play and I only completed three volunteer hours on the cliffs today 😭. I managed to replenish the bird feeders, empty the dog bins and complete a litter pick around the car park area before the rain started. Soon after, the rain came and it was torrential and relentless, coupled with a very strong east south east blow, making it feel like any exposed skin was being subjected to a sander! I decided to undertake a full reserve litter pick, visiting all of the viewpoints and decide what I would do afterwards. Well, even though I had full, patent waterproofs on, I was soaked and my clothing was at least ten times heavier than when I started! After a coffee, I decided to abandon my efforts and go home. However, as I write this (1300hrs), the sun has made an appearance!

Not a lot to see and a challenge for photography, I was amazed to see this Gannet Guga still on the ledges at Grandstand.

Looking for some colour on such a horrid morning...

Aspects of Bridlington Harbour & Bay, Some of the Birds - 30th October 2021

A rather inclement day in Bridlington with very strong wind, heavy rain showers, dull, cloudy and eventually some mid afternoon sunshine. You could say it was rather challenging! It was also rather expensive with my binoculars falling on to concrete rendering them useless 😭😭😭!

However, some nice birds to be seen......

Red Throated Diver

My first Sanderling of the year

Purple Sandpipers were in excess of ten

Redshank

Turnstone

Waders in flight

And finally a "mixed bag"

Aspects of Bridlington Harbour & Bay - 30th October 2021

A rather inclement day with very strong wind, some heavy rain, generally dull and cloudy and a little sunshine mid to late afternoon. Photography was challenging as was erecting our market stall! Some areas of the harbour were closed off due to the heavy sea.

South Dykes, Flamborough - 28th October 2021

Something completely different this morning! June and Malcolm F invited me to walk with them to look for fungi around south dykes. Fungi are not my forte and I have no idea how to identify them from thousands that look very similar! If I see them, I love to photograph them, but identification remains rather "difficult". I learned a lot this morning and bow to the knowledge of my mentors. I have a couple of books on fungi identification, but as with most guides, very few in the wild look like those in the books! I also learned that age, wet and dry weather also alters the colour and appearance of fungi! Thank you June and Malcolm for tolerating me today!
