Aspects of Bridlington Harbour and Bay - 30th June 2021

"......when the boat comes in"

A rather cool, dull, cloudy and drizzly start to the morning and during my wander around Brid Harbour. A typical market day really!

Wish you were here...?

My artistic image entitled "Seaweed in harbour water"!

From the deep

Razorbills seem to like the water of Brid Bay and good numbers were diving around the harbour wall, constantly harassed by Herring Gulls.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs - 27th June 2021

Razorbill with "Jumpling"

A morning of sea-fret affecting visibility as it drifted in and out but a much better afternoon with warm sunny periods. Some images are "atmospherically" affected by the sea-fret - well that's my excuse 😇!

Fulmar

Some of the "chicks"

Kittiwake

Gannet

Guillemot

Puffins (back to adult birds)

Guillemot "offering", but no partner or chick

And, the glorious Gannets

And finally, my heart skipped a beat when I spotted this immature Gannet. My first thoughts were that it was a year 1 bird, i.e. fledged this year

When seen closer, I now believe it is a year 2 bird, probably fledging late in 2020?

RSPB Bempton Cliffs - 27th June 2021 "When the Sea-fret Comes In!"

It's summer and Bempton Cliffs should be idyllic, right? Of course it is in any weather! But what about when a sea-fret comes in? That's nature and you make the most of it and perhaps change tack! It may mean that you wont get the fantastic images of Puffins that you have dreamed of, but on these occasions you look to the dramatic effects present. Now many will have wished that they had a smaller lens than a 500/600/800mm that was intended to make images WOW! So now is the time to get out the mobile phone or landscape lens and fill your boots with something different. Alternatively, you could sit on a bench and cry 😇! I'm so glad I had my Sony! The sea-fret lasted until lunchtime.
