RSPB Bempton Cliffs

Puffin

If it's Sunday, you will find me undertaking volunteering duties at RSPB Bempton Cliffs! What a day though, all four seasons being experienced throughout the morning, sometimes within an hour! One thing was consistent - the cold, bitter wind! It made the sleet and hail feel razor sharp, probably why visitor numbers were quite low!

The birds certainly made up for the weather with all eight main breeding seabirds, (Puffin; Razorbill; Guillemot; Kittiwake; Fulmar; Gannet; Herring Gull and Shag), in good numbers, on the ledges, sea and in flight. Migration has stalled with few passerines about, probably hunkered down and who could blame them?

And finally, some of the views

To enhance your day at Bempton Cliffs, please dress wisely with windproof / waterproof garments remembering it can be very cold and usually is!

Also, if you have them, please bring binoculars as some of the birds can play hard to get! Unfortunately, at the moment, it is not possible to hire binoculars or for volunteers to share equipment.
