Beauty and the Beast - Bridlington

Bridlington Bay

I have always believed that you should start with a positive if you are going to end with a negative.

A lovely start to the day around Bridlington Harbour enjoying the light! This is the positive Beauty!

Moving towards the "Beast" but not quite! Brutes of a bird!

And finally the Beast or netting in this case, put up to stop birds, particularly seabirds nesting on properties. These images are so sad......

Kittiwakes are seabirds that are in a worrying decline, so much so that they are in the red conservation category, those of most concern. Kittiwakes are loyal birds, both to their partner (pair for life) and to their nest site (they return to the same nest every year). Unfortunately, where birds nest, they poop, and property owners do not appreciate this. As a result, many resort to putting up netting to deter the birds. Unfortunately, the birds still attempt to breed on their traditional nests and many become trapped, and/or injured or die trying to enter the netting. The above distressing images depict such happenings.

The RSPCA are due to attend and hopefully assist these birds.

UPDATE: Both birds rescued, one flew away, the other has been taken to Whitby for care. RSPCA have discussed netting and it will be addressed.
