A Mooch Around Scarbados

Scarborough Castle

At last we broke away from Bempton for a mooch around Scarborough. This was our first visit since February 2020, due to us adhering to "lockdowns" and exercising locally in Bempton. Parking roadside at Scalby Mills we walked to  Scarborough Harbour via the open air theatre, Peasholm Park, North Bay, Climbing up to the castle before descending to the harbour and return. A rather dull, overcast morning with a keen, tad chilly, northerly wind. It was really nice to visit somewhere local and different.

We paid our respects to Freddie

"Freddie Gilroy and the Belsen Stragglers is a statue by sculptor Ray Lonsdale which overlooks North Bay of Scarborough, England. Made from weathering steel, the sculpture depicts Freddie Gilroy, a former soldier who participated in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, sitting on a bench in his old age. Gilroy was a friend of the sculptor and Lonsdale made the piece partly as a tribute to him, but also as a wider war and Holocaust memorial".

Not really a birding walk but ....
