Scarborough Harbour - 21st September 2021

Fem Eider

Needing to visit Waterstones Bookshop in Scarborough gave the perfect opportunity to have a wander around the harbour. Plus of course a coffee and bacon roll! The tide was receding so I wasn't expecting a lot.

It was nice to see two female Eiders swim in and pose near the slipway

It is sad to see so many Guillemots and Razorbills inshore and within the harbour. Unprecedented numbers of Auks are being seen, some in good health, others in poor health and unfortunately some being washed up dead. The reasoning is being investigated by scientists, but must surely be a food issue i.e. lack of?

And just a couple of views

Interestingly, not a single Turnstone!
