Beast from the East (Day 1)

The wind has certainly gained its strength and turned north east so bitterly cold and when combined with sleet, a painful experience. So far, Bempton has not suffered as has some other parts of the country. I have probably tempted fate by saying this! However, we have not got off completely unscathed -

"Beast from the East" hits Bempton hard with drifts and fallen branches!😇

Last night I had a very strange dream! The chalk cliffs at Bempton had been eroded away by a mile and we now lived on the new cliff tops. I was happy though as I could now tick the seabirds as garden ticks! However, top soil erosion is taking place at a rapid rate as can be seen at Grandstand. If the thin wedge of soil to the right gives way, there will be a totally open view of the breeding seabirds. Difficult to portray the erosion in an image even on wide angle

The wind was so strong on the cliff tops that it was difficult to stand still, let alone hold a camera! The Guillemots have gone (sensible) and I didn't expect any Gannets, but...

Tough birds Gannets!

The wind was strong and the sea was wild...

Please stay safe on your local exercise walk in nature.
