Darkness, Gloom and Strange Light on my walk to Bempton Cliffs - 1st December 2020

Kestrel in the gloom!

Typical of the weather forecasters they got it wrong again! Having suffered several damp, dark and wet days, I was hopeful in their prediction of a frosty, bright morning for my walk to Bempton Cliffs. Instead, I got darkness, gloom, some drizzle and some very strange light! Still I was committed and determined to make the best out of the walk!

A cheery thought is that today (1st December) marks the beginning of the end! 2020 that is!

It was a rather spooky walking up Cliff Lane towards the cliffs

A few breaks in the thick cloud at least gave some excellent but brief views of the Moon

The Moon over RAF Bempton

It was quite obvious that the thick cloud base would obscure the sunrise

but there was some interesting light over the sea

Coastal views were rather gloomy

Bird wise on and around the cliffs included a Short-eared Owl, a Barn Owl, many Fulmars and Herring Gulls, Greater Black Backed Gulls, Cormorants and Shags. The only bird image I managed in the gloom was this Kestrel in the Dell

Well after sunrise, walking back down Cliff Lane, a golden glow emerged

Certainly not the walk I had hoped for but I managed (I think) to capture a few "atmospheric" images!

All images taken, handheld, with my Sony RX10 mk4.

Stay safe!
