The [Bempton] Cliffs are alive with sight, sound and smell of seabirds! - 8th June 2020

Year 3 Immature Gannet

The weather over the last three days has been rather horrid, persistent heavy rain and very strong winds, so much so that I did not venture onto the cliffs! An improvement this morning with a lighter wind and some sunny intervals had me back on track!

Nature delivers and nature takes away!

Nature delivers and it is always good to see new life on the cliffs...

Razorbills with chicks (jumplings)...

Gannets with chicks (Guga)...

Kittiwake chicks have been reported, but I didn't see any. A lot with eggs though...

And, sadly, nature takes away...

Herring Gull predation...

Now, I'm pretty sure that in the next two images, you can make out the embryo...

I'm not sure about this Guillemot egg, I'd say the chick has hatched and is being brooded by the adult bird rather than predation whereby the egg would've been taken...

Life on the cliffs wouldn't be as interesting without a few neighbourly / territorial squabbles...

Unhappy Kittiwakes...

And, a "teenage" disagreement between an adult Gannet and an immature year 3 Gannet...

Puffins just got on with loafing...

Was this Puffin just "sheltering" or just unimpressed with Kittiwake cloacal kissing?

Razorbills just "hanging" around...

And enjoying the cliffs wild gardens...

And finally, a random Meadow Pipit...
