Barn Owl
Another very pleasant walk in good weather, but that promises to change from tomorrow with rain forecast. Tomorrow also happens to be the day Bridlington Market reopens and we return to work!
Two of the local Barn Owls showed well today, with this one on Hoddy Cows Lane...
And this one at Bempton Cliffs...
"Mind that post...."!
Best bird of the morning for me, but probably the worst image, was this Marsh Harrier (year tick)...
Nature can be cruel as evidenced in the next images. A Carrion Crow arrives on the ledges and attempts to dislodge a pair of Razorbills incubating their egg. The Razorbills put up a good fight but eventually the Crow overpowers them and gains access to the egg, which it starts to break open. The Razorbills rally and drive the Crow off, but the egg is badly damaged. The Razorbills resume incubation, but alas, I feel their efforts will be in vane.
There can be beauty in sadness. Here we have the Herring Gulls "breakfast table", an area above their nest which is littered by predated egg shells. In this case Guillemot...
On the ledges, Puffins were again elusive...
Guillemot with Bridled Guillemot, allopreening...
Proud and protective Gannet parent...
Elsewhere, the passerines entertain.
Tree Sparrow...
Skylark...
Common Whitethroat...
RSPB Bempton Cliffs has now appeared on the RSPB list of open reserves. However, this is the reserve and car park only. The visitor centre, café, shop and toilets remain CLOSED.
