Exercise Walks in May 2020

And don't forget to bring me back some fish!

My early morning walks are intended to avoid people. I think I might be one of only a few birders / photographers who is not going out all day or taking trips to birding hotspots around the country. I cannot take that risk, but I have a good local patch and my walk is c4.5miles. I haven't driven for well over 8weeks!

Another dull and cloudy morning with a continuing strong and cool south westerly wind. Of course, when I checked the forecast before bed, it stated sunny periods first thing! It was not a good morning for photography and most wildlife had gone to ground!

One of the Mistle Thrush youngsters had fallen from the nest and was huddled close to a wall. Hopefully, it wont be predated and that the parents will continue to service it.

Two pairs of Canada Geese on Buckton pond each have five goslings. Here one of the families is out for an early morning walk / swim...

Walking up Hoddy Cows Lane, the Barn Owls were again active. While watching them hunt, I heard a call that I have not heard for over five years "wet my lips", "wet my lips", "wet my lips" coming from one of the Barley Fields! Unmistakable, and my first in Yorkshire, the tiny game bird Quail! Of course they are heard but rarely seen and this one was true to form!

Up on the cliffs, the keen, cool wind did not encourage loitering! At least the Gannets played for the camera!...
