Thornwick Pool, Flamborough - 15th August 2024

Little Egret

Symphony was due at the groomers in Flamborough giving me the opportunity of spending a couple of hours at Thornwick Pool, Flamborough. Sadly, there have been regular occurrences of anti-social behaviour in the hide, so in order to combat this, the hide has been "modified" in order to discourage this. The door and rear wall have been removed, together with the lower viewing flaps, basically creating a covered shelter. Now, bearing in mind we are still in August, I have to say it was a tad chilly! Good job I had my big coat and a flask of coffee! The wind blew and rain fell, and I hate to think what it will be like in the "cooler" seasons. However, I think the objective of preventing anti-social behavioural issues may have been solved!

Overall, a quiet time. However, two Little Egrets dropped in briefly.

Five Common Snipe in total showed reasonably well

Two Teal

Coots have had a good year with adults and young birds of varying ages

Similarly with Moorhens

Two Dunlin remained distant, with this one the closest

And an appearance of a Roe Deer

Thank you for looking.
