Hornsea Mere (2) - 31st August 2021

Leucistic Arctic Tern

For a change, I headed out to Hornsea Mere and stood in the light rain, looking at very little! Several walks around Kirkholm Point and still nothing to point the camera at! The weather brightened and then rained again and still nothing! Perseverance paid off, however, and my short time on the point turned out to be an "out of nowhere" experience! As the rain eased, a small number of Little Gulls appeared "out of nowhere". Again, "out of nowhere" also appeared the leucistic Arctic Tern. Very nice to see, just a pity the sun didn't appear "out of nowhere"!

A two camera day, these are courtesy of my Canon 7D Mk2 and 400mm 5.6 lens.

Grey Heron in the rain and gloom!

Little Gulls

The Little Gull to the fore in the next two images, was not well. When it tried to walk it wobbled badly, but when it took off, its flight was equally erratic. Sad to see.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a Swallow? No, it's a poorly captured leucistic Arctic Tern!

I may sometimes mis-identify birds, but on this occasion, even I know the difference 😇

Aspects of Bridlington Harbour and Bay - 28th August 2021

Bridlington Harbour

A lovely start to the day with blue sky and sunshine, good ingredients for a wander around Bridlington Harbour!

Bridlington Harbour

Great Black Backed Gull

Dunlin

Turnstone

Cormorant

Out in Bridlington Bay

Words fail me! A very sad aspect of the harbour. I picked up this item of fishing tackle on the NO FISHING pier amongst litter(placed to photograph)! A danger to wildlife, children and domestic pets. There can be no excuses for leaving it, but I doubt that the perpetrators even care as they disregarded the no fishing regulations.

Thornwick Pool, Flamborough - 27th August 2021

Wall Butterfly

With Symphony due at the groomers in Flamborough, I had an hour or so to kill, so chose to spend it at Thornwick Pool. The hide has been locked and thoroughly cleaned after an episode of binge drinking, emesis and general use as a toilet - grateful thanks to the small team that cleaned up the mess, left by young hobbledehoys. Unfortunately, my hide key would not turn in the lock, but my access was saved by the long suffering Tony, who sorted the lock - again grateful thanks Tony.

Quite quiet bird wise, the best being 7 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Snipe, a Wigeon and brightening up the cool, dull and cloudy day, several Wall Butterflies.
