RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Gannet Life - 20th June 2021

Welcome to this world!

Today, I decided to record Gannets of all ages to maturity at the age of five years and some aspects of Gannet life on the cliffs. I try to show visitors how to age Gannets, the more dark feathers on flying Gannets, the younger they are. When they hatch, young Gannets (known as Guga) go from virtually featherless, through grey to white, before becoming very black prior to fledging. At the moment, year 1 Gannets are Guga's, still in the nest!

Year 1 Gannets

Year 2 Gannet

Year 3 Gannet

Year 4 Gannet

Year 5+ (Adult)

Immature Gannets form "clubs" on the cliff and show their true traits in attempting to find a partner!
