RSPB Bempton Cliffs (2) - 13th June 2021

Puffin

A very warm start to the day but quite cloudy, becoming even warmer with sunny periods. A day of shorts and T-shirts on the cliffs, and it's not often that is possible! Also very busy with visitors!

We are starting to see a few young birds making their appearances on the cliff ledges.

Gannets

Guillemots

Razorbills

Kittiwake (There have been reports of Kittiwake chicks)

An interesting Kittiwake - 1st winter, worn?

Kittiwakes

Puffins

Fulmars

Herring Gull

Meadow Pipit

Reed Bunting

All images taken handheld with Sony RX10 Mk4 (but not necessarily with the correct settings! 😇

  1. Any idea when the Puffin chicks will hatch out?

  2. Any time now Suk, if not already! They usually leave the cliffs by the end of July. The Puffins at Bempton nest in the rock cliff face in tunnels and cracks and not by burrowing in the cliff top soil. Can be difficult to see any chicks but look for parent birds carrying sand eels.

  3. Yes, that’s what I’m hoping to see! Arriving tomorrow for a week of birding so any advice welcomed. Thanks
