Bempton Cliffs Sunrise Walk On A Cold & Frosty Morning - 7th December 2021

The forecast (Ha! Ha!) for today is not great with another storm due to batter the UK! It was not raining and their had been a hard frost so off to the cliffs we go. The roads and paths were treacherous with black ice, none more than Cliff Lane. Indeed, the last part of the lane where it dips down to the reserve was thick black ice and very dangerous. Warnings to reserve team members via WhatsApp as we don't want anyone ending up in the dell! 😇😏

The light this morning was changeable and the pre-sunrise was a warning to shepherds. As often happens, the actual sunrise was hidden behind a thick layer of cloud, but I managed a few images.

Bird wise, it was very quiet with a reduced number of Fulmars and c30 Guillemot on the ledges.

  1. Just want to say thank you Kevin for all these wonderful posts. You won't remember but I did drop a comment back in June this year as we were on our way to spending a week at Buckton purely to see the birds. We had an amazing week and it has remained our favourite experience in these troubled times. I look at your blog most days so I can stay in touch with what is happening up there. It has been a lovely connection for us. Hope you are all ok up there especially with these awful storms. Stay safe and we hope to visit the area again one day.

  2. Hello Mandy, thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my blog. I'm really pleased to hear that you are a regular reader and I'm glad you can connect with the area from what I write and see. The recent storms have been uncomfortable, but others have suffered more, so we are lucky. Hopefully you will be able to vis1t again soon. Take care.
