The Sun Sets Over Bempton For The Last Time in 2021! - 31st December 2021

Here we are at the end of another challenging year and as we prepare to say goodbye to 2021, I offer you the sun setting over Bempton for the last time in 2021! Tomorrow will be the dawn of another day, another month and another year. May it bring you hope, happiness, peace and love. See you all on the other side!

Happy New Year!

My Last Walk to Bempton Cliffs in 2021 (Some of the Birds) - 31st December 2021

Fulmars

Yet another dull, grey day but with a few brighter elements of dull grey! Arriving on the cliffs, five Fieldfares were in the tall tress near the visitor centre. A single Short-eared Owl quartered the "Coultas field" but distant. On the ledges were Fulmars and Guillemots (c200), many less than yesterday. On the sea, off Grandstand / Bartlett Nab viewpoints, were c12 Red Throated Divers and five Shags. The old potato field (now stubble) held c40 Lapwings.

My Last Walk of 2021 to Bempton Cliffs - 31st December 2021

My intention this morning was to walk to Bempton Cliffs and capture the very last sunrise of 2021. The forecast was promising, that is until I walked outside and......RAIN! No way was I going to walk in the dark and rain, so I postponed starting off for an hour. As you can imagine, there was no sunrise, just varying levels of dull grey! So, I offer the last dull, grey images of 2021!

And, passed out in a passing place

Bempton Cliffs Walk (Some of the Birds) - 30th December 2021

Guillemots

With the recent rather horrid weather, it has been a while since I posted any wildlife images. I decided to have a go this morning, even though the light conditions were poor and high ISO was order of the day. Most of the images were taken in near darkness! "Guttural growling" indicated Guillemots on the ledges in hundreds, with many more rafting on the sea and in flight. More "raucous" sounds indicated the Fulmars were in a quarrelsome mood. It was also good to sea a Short-eared Owl quartering the "Coultas field", next to the old RAF Bempton base.

Bempton Cliffs Walk - 30th December 2021

From Cliff Lane, Bempton

The weather of late has been rather horrid with either thick fog or heavy rain, so it was nice to be greeted with a dry start to the day, albeit dull dark cloud and just a brief glimmer of brightness!

The walk up Cliff Lane, Bempton was dull and dark, but a glimmer of brightness could be seen over Bridlington Bay.

Once on the cliffs brightness improved, looking towards Flamborough North Landing from Bartlett Nab

Looking from Bartlett Nab towards Filey

The walk back down Cliff Lane to Bempton gave a glimmer of the sun

Unfortunately, the dull cloud quickly returned. The plus side was it didn't rain and a good walk was had!
