Hornsea Mere

Mute Swan with Cygnets

A trip to Hornsea today for Heather to receive her second Covid vaccination and the opportunity to wander the town, the mere and the freeport. Hornsea Mere was very quiet and of course, most birds were off the Wassand shore from Kirkholme Point! Good job I had my scope with me!

Three year ticks with a drake Pochard, several Common Terns and four Shoveler. Three Common Sandpipers were on Swan Island and a few Swifts and many Hirundines fed over the water. There was little of interest to point the camera at, save the following obliging common birds!

Mute Swans

Starlings can show beautiful plumage

As can the Jackdaws

And keeping an eye on proceedings, a resting Mallard

I could not conceal my excitement of the bird life present and celebrated with a fish & chip lunch on the sea front. Heather demonstrated her excitement with retail therapy at the freeport having bribed me with a chocolate chip ice cream!

All images taken handheld with Canon 7D Mk2 and 400mm 5.6 primelens.
