Bempton Cliffs - 4th September 2020

Gannet with Guga

My walk to the cliffs started well before dawn and felt quite eerie in the darkness! My aim was to be on the cliffs for the sunrise, which I achieved, but was a tad disappointed with the outcome (images below). It was nice to see several bats hunting around the trees on Cliff Lane, but unfortunately, I have no knowledge of species.

I visited all six viewpoints on the cliffs, with the Gannets dominating but also Fulmars, Shags, Herring Gulls and a few Kittiwakes. The sound of the Kittiwakes calling has now, sadly, gone. The Gannet Gugas are of varied development, some have recently fledged and can be seen on the sea, some are ready to go, whilst others are still to moult out of their downy whites and gain some black feathers.
