An Audience with Little Gulls, Hornsea Mere - 20th August 2020

Would you like a trip to Hornsea on Thursday, asks Heather. That would be nice, says I, thinking Hornsea Mere, fantastic fish and chips etc. etc. That's good says Heather, there's a fabric shop I'd like to visit!!! When she reads this, I'm sure the coroner will record "cause of death - Covid-19!".

We arrived at the Mere in sunny and warm conditions, with little wind - normally when we come here, it is the total opposite! The usual wildfowl for this time of year were present. On the pontoons, were my favourite Gulls, Little Gulls and thus a year tick for both of us. A bonus, but very distant were two, possibly three Black Terns, another year tick. Scanning the Mere, I found Heather another year tick in Little Egret. Best of the rest were two Marsh Harriers. Leaving the Mere, it was into the town for some retail therapy for Heather, while I took Symphony for a walk around the local park! It was getting very busy in Hornsea, so we took a rain check on the fish and chips, enjoying instead a Cooplands pasty!
