A Nostalgic Journey Back To Newbold Quarry Park and Oxford Canal, Rugby - 5th September 2024

Gosh! A real nostalgic walk this afternoon, visiting Newbold Quarry Park and the nearby Oxford Canal. Nostalgia indeed, my last visit was 52 years ago as a sweet and innocent sixteen year old! In those days, the site had not been developed, the paths were narrow and muddy, fishing was allowed (with stories of monster sized fish!), although not recommended, swimming and skinny dipping took place, and of course, digging for fossils. . There was an old boat house that pumped water up to the nearby Oxford Canal, plus old buildings and gun emplacements to explore. The quarry today seemed much smaller than I remember. Of course, today the paths have been improved, the vegetation has grown and health & safety has seen the erection of fences, warning notices et.al. It was good to make a return visit!

Robins Pincushion, a gall caused by the larvae of a tiny Gall Wasp. I love them!

Thank you for looking.
