Lockdown Birding 21st - 22nd April 2020

Common Whitethroat

Lockdown 2020 continues, as does the great weather with more sunshine and wall to wall blue sky! Does anyone else think we'll get rain, sleet, snow, hail and gales when lockdown is lifted, even if it is during May / June? Still, the permitted health walks continue and the wildlife continues to show well or not so well (which is more often the case!). The sun is now rising earlier, giving good light for our 0600hrs starts.

It is always nice to receive a surprise! In this case a Stoat! The first I have seen on the cliffs but a change from the Weasel!

I noticed a Goldfinch on the top of a bush and thought it would make a nice image. As I raised my camera. out of nowhere came another Goldfinch and engaged the female with a "cloacal kiss"! Then disappeared as quickly as it came! I wonder if they were a pair or whether the male was just an opportunist?

Common Whitethroats are increasing in numbers

They may be small but Wrens can belt out a loud song!

Reed Bunting

Dunnock

Linnet

The Short-eared Owl put in another appearance, but remained distant

Yellowhammer

Can you see us? Brown Hares

Common in the area, Drinker Moth Caterpillar

Please stay safe and follow the governments current advice when undertaking health walks.
