Lockdown Birding 19th - 20th April 2020

Short-eared Owl

The fantastic spring weather continues (as does the lockdown) with long sunny periods and blue sky! The only downside is the cooling easterly winds but we can live with that. Another downside is that when my permitted exercise walk starts c0600hrs, it is cool enough to require thick clothing, but as the sun rises and towards the end of the walk, I'm sweating like a pig in a pork butchers!

I've been totally amazed by some of the wildlife surprises that offer themselves up on my walks. Today (19th) was no exception with a Short-eared Owl appearing in fields at the top of Cliff Lane, Bempton.

My first Common Whitethroat of the year

One of the best songsters of spring has got to be the Song Thrush

As is the appearance and song of the Willow Warbler

I keep trying to get some images of Skylarks in flight. A difficult task, but I'm happy(ish) with these!

Meadow Pipits seem to be everywhere at the moment

There seem to be more Corn Buntings singing around the cliff top fields than last year, one of my favourite (not so) little brown jobs!

Female Reed Bunting

Male Reed Bunting

Another often overlooked songster, the Dunnock

Male Linnet

Yellowhammers

Please follow the governments instructions and above all, stay safe.
