Tophill Low - 9th January 2023

Curlews

Looking back at my records, I last visited Tophill Low in September 2021, so a visit was well overdue! The reserve has been closed on and off since then for major water related issues and this opportunity was taken to improve the natural habitat and improve some of the hides, two of which are still to be built. It certainly felt strange walking through the south side, during which I only saw three people! I didn't have time availability to visit the northern section. During my three hours, there was a vast difference in light, from bright and sunny to very dull. I decided to attempt making some of my images more environmental, mainly due to the light, but also due to the distance the birds were from the lens. Today, I decided to use my Canon 7D Mk2 with 400mm 5.6 prime lens.

I made contact with the three Smews, a drake on "D" reservoir and drake and redhead on Watton

Great White Egret on Watton

Some of 45 Curlew on South Marsh

Struggled a bit to capture Marsh Harrier!

Finally, couldn't resist this one!
