Scarborough Area - 26th January 2023

Whooper Swan, Scarborough Mere

An early start this morning to get Heather to Seamer railway station and my plans were to have a look around the Scarborough area, in the hope of a few year ticks. Checking the weather forecast the day looked hopeful, with no rain forecast - so it rained, heavily and remained rather dull for the rest! I headed to Scarborough Harbour and sat in the car waiting for it to get light and listened to the rain heavily pounding the car roof! Eventually, we walked the harbour and ticked a drake Common Scoter off the entrance. Very little else. Headed over to Scalby Mills with waves crashing at the sea defences. Walked to the open air theatre, nothing, lake drained. On to Peasholm Park and Glen, very little, no Dipper, but ticked my first Song Thrush in full song. Back to Scalby Mills and the tide was receding, so managed to tick several Ringed Plovers on the rocks.

Scalby Mills An interesting rock resembling a sea mammal!

On to Holbeck with not a gull insight!

Then down to Scarborough Mere and ticked drake and two redhead Goosanders.

Redhead Goosander Photobombed!

The long staying Whooper Swan was also showing well

Finally, some rather "moody" landscape images

Thank you for looking.
