Bempton Cliffs Walk (Guillemots & Fulmars) - 22nd January 2023

Guillemots

A cold, frosty and misty walk to Bempton Cliffs this morning was rewarded by thousands of Guillemots on the ledges, sea and in flight. It was the largest gathering I have witnessed this winter (November to date). It was good to hear their "guttural growling" while chatting to Ivan N. Many of the Guillemots were sporting summer plumage and some were observed "mating", although unlikely to be successful! Also present were Fulmars and small numbers of distant Gannets.

I have always wanted to photograph Guillemots in the snow! No luck so far, so Guillemots in the frost will have to do!
