Hornsea Mere - 18th November 2021

Fieldfare

Meeting relatives for lunch near Hornsea, it would have been rude not to pay a visit to the Mere! It was rather challenging on Kirkholm Point with a strong westerly blowing, creating waves that made most birds disappear and challenging the stability of my optics! As usual, all of the birds were either distant or hidden within the glare of the sun. However, I did eventually get my scope on to the Slavonian Grebe, realising later that this bird was my first in Yorkshire and my first for over six years! Another tick, albeit a year tick, were two splendid male Red Crested Pochards and one female. Alas, too distant for any images. It was also good to see a Fieldfare feeding on the mini golf course before being seen off by Blackbirds. Cue, the common birds!
