......Two Turtle Doves........! 11th June 2014

Turtle Dove

Pastures new this morning saw Ian and myself navigating the narrow Oxfordshire lanes to arrive at RSPB Otmoor. It was very warm and sunny as we started along the visitor trail, soon wishing that I had shorts! Arriving at the feeding station, the loud "purring" of a pair of Turtle Doves could be heard and they were soon located, one in the trees and one on the electricity cables. My first sighting for three years!

Scanning the wetlands, opposite the feeding station produced distant views of the Glossy Ibis, another three year tick for me!

Glossy Ibis

Sitting in the wetlands hide, an almost hidden Hare was spotted;

Skylarks were abundant;

A brief moment of comedy when this juvenile Moorhen attempted to balance on a bulrush!

Walking to the screens was disappointing with no Hobbys, but a number of Red Kites were constantly mobbed by the many Lapwings. The most abundant and obliging bird was Reed Bunting and this one remained perched for an image, unlike the Reed and Sedge Warblers!

An obliging Chaffinch

And finally a Mute Swan flypast!
