Great Crested Grebe with chick
The weather forecast declared that this morning would be warm and sunny from early hours, so the alarm was set for 0400hrs with the intention of cycling to Draycote Water for c0500hrs. Of course, when I opened the door, it was RAINING! Typical! I suppose that opening the door or window is the best form of weather forecasting! I delayed my journey by an hour, until some brightness was seen in the sky, but still got wet! When I arrived at Draycote Water, the morning was improving but in two laps, very little of interest was found! The best was a pair of Great Crested Grebes with a chick.
Great Crested Grebe
Grey Heron
Wren
Pied Wagtail
Common Spotted Orchid
The result of someone eating too many pies?
Thanks for the identification of the Orchid
ReplyDeleteThanks for these Kevin. Excellent
ReplyDeleteThank you Bernard. Orchids are not my forte, aselfe, and stand to be corrected if I am wrong!
ReplyDeleteBernard has written to say he's happy with the ID on the Orchid:
ReplyDeleteCommon Spotted Orchid, Dactylorhiza fuchsii. It is possibly the most common orchid in the world, grows almost everywhere in Eurasia.
The one on our shore at Cleethorpes is the Western Marsh Orchid, D.majalis, a protected orchid because although it's range is spread across Western Europe it tends to only appear in small isolated areas.
He sent a photo of 'his' one this week.
