Gannet
It's good to be back! With two storms, Ciara and Dennis hitting the cliffs and throwing a few tantrums, I have not been motivated to venture out. Today, I just had to escape, albeit for just three hours (due to family commitments) and I certainly feel better for it. Storm Dennis threw very strong winds, some heavy rain but the temperature was mild. I stayed until 1100hrs so I do not have the end of day sightings board to share. Best birds, between Grandstand and Bartlett Nab viewpoints were 200+ Gannets (on cliff, sea and in flight); 50+ Fulmars; 50+ Guillemots (none on the cliffs though); and 6 Porpoise. Obviously there would have been greater numbers over the whole reserve. Later in the day, I learned that at least one Short-eared Owl put in an appearance.

Gannet Life
It is good to see this pair returning to Bartlett Nab (now in their fourth breeding season)
With so much rain, life on the cliffs can be a messy affair!
Gannets in flight are always a pleasure. Although strong, the wind wasn't right for any aerial acrobatics.
Sky pointing indicates that a Gannet is about to move, usually fly and is often followed by a "Geronimo" style leap, often accompanied by a sound / cry
Now that he's gone, I can get on with the housework!
And fantastic Fulmars
Always present but often overlooked, the Jackdaw
With all of the rain, erosion of the cliff tops is obvious, with small "water features" adding to the issues
And finally, some views
Hopefully, back to normal next week!
Keep 'em peeled!
Interesting ..thanks.
