Hornsea Mere - 12th August 2019

Knot

An enjoyable few hours at Hornsea Mere made a nice change from the cliffs at Bempton! Today, the U3A photographic group had a meet up and I decided to spend a couple of hours on my own before meeting up. Unfortunately most of the birds here tend to be distant and this certainly applied to my target bird, Little Gull, present in large numbers but not within the reach of my camera lens.

Highlights included Knot (1), Little Gull c200, drake Pochard (1), Garganey (1), Common Sandpiper (1), Grey Wagtail (1), Little Egret (14), Dunlin (6).

All images have been taken on Kirkholme Point.

Knot

Dunlin

Grey Wagtail

Sitting on the point, thousands of Swifts and Hirundines flew overhead with many of the latter landing in the mere side bushes. Unfortunately, no rarities seen!

House Martins

Swallow

Painted Lady Butterfly

And finally, Mute Swan
