Red-eyed Vireo, Bempton Cliffs - 2nd October 2023

 

A Red-eyed Vireo was found at Bempton Cliffs a few days ago by Will Scott, but being a weekend the crowds would've been excessive. Decided to walk to the cliffs this morning and prepared to give ten minutes or so to see if the bird would show. Remember, I very rarely see reported birds! No show first thing, so walked to the cliffs, and on my return, still no show according the massive crowd of three! A few moments looking into the dell, I spotted a Chiffchaff and while looking at it I spotted a second bird. Could it be? Yes it was, a life tick that is Red-eyed Vireo! It was quite sprightly, flitting in the hawthorns, remaining still briefly enabling some record shots that I share below.
