Bempton Cliffs, New Camera, New Challenges - 4th October 2020

Northern Gannet

Changes are afoot! Yesterday I took delivery of a Sony RX10 mk4 bridge camera. The rationale for this change is to cut down on the number and weight of items carried when out in the field. It is going to be a very steep learning curve mastering (if ever!) the complexities of this camera. On the plus side, I traded in my Canon 300mm 2.8 prime lens which was becoming a struggle to carry, so there was no financial outlay. If I master the Sony, this could lead to me selling off all of my remaining Canon DSLR kit! The Sony is very complex for me but I'm sure a ten year old child would master it very quickly! Thanks to a few Facebook friends, I received a few tips in order to get started and today I headed for the cliffs with only my new toy to play with! First impressions were good and I liked the feel of the camera. The technique, however, is another matter. One of the first things I must master is the silent activation button. I must be very heavy fingered as I thought I had only taken about fifty images but when I got home, I had taken over four hundred and fifty! No wonder the battery died on me! So much to learn! Hopefully, if you read this and can offer advice etc. please let me know, it will be gratefully received.

The following are my first efforts, a pretty mixed bag! All are handheld
