Bridlington Harbour - 14th March 2020

Purple Sandpiper

Market day and with initial strong wind and showers, it was necessary to keep our vans close to our stalls for protection. This didn't mean I had to stay at the stall, which was capably "manned" by Heather, allowing me to escape and see what was about!

Not a lot first thing as the tide was high with waves crashing against the harbour walls and sea defences! It has been a lot worse! Wish you were here...?

Around the harbour, on the buildings, it was nice to see the Kittiwakes returning to their nest sites. They are such pretty birds, very vocal, but don't steal your fish and chips!

I often refer to them as "Vampire" birds due to the inside of their mouths being bright red!

Later in the day, with low tide, the waders appeared, often unnoticed as they blend in with the rocks as with this Purple Sandpiper and Turnstone

Also present were Herring Gulls; Greater Black Backed Gulls; Cormorants; Mallards; Feral Pigeons; House Sparrows; Starlings; Wood Pigeons.
