Fantastic Easter Sunday on Bempton Cliffs - 21st April 2019

Puffin

WOW! What a fabulous day on the cliffs! The weather was a scorcher, blue sky, wall to wall sunshine and only a light blow, allowing temperatures to rise. Yours truly felt overdressed and wishing I had chosen shorts! It was also very, very busy with most people wanting to see Puffins but the Puffins did not want to be easily seen!

The day started well on the nature trail and dell areas with year ticks for me in the form of Wheatears, Yellow Wagtail, Firecrest, Brambling, Lesser Whitethroat and Ring Ousel! Also present were Blackcaps, Whitethroat and Willow Warblers, with flyover Curlew, Corn Buntings and the Barn Owl hunting. A great start to the day and all before 0800hrs! Unfortunately, no images.

Here is today's sightings board, very impressive!

The cliffs were full of birds - Gannets, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Herring Gulls, Guillemots and Razorbills. However, the bird everyone wants to see aka the Puffin, decided , once again, to remain elusive! However, they were seen on the cliffs, on the water and in flight with some lucky people getting brief but stonking views!

The first Gannet eggs are now being seen!

The mating game goes on!

As does the collection of nesting materials

A very vocal Fulmar!

A fish for my beloved!

Where's my fish?

Razorbills

Up a bit! Left a bit! Yes, yes just there!

And more of the mating game!

Kittiwakes

What will you see?

  1. Wow! Some great photos there. Thanks so much for showing us. I did a boat trip out to Lunga Island off the coast of Mull yesterday. Whilst only a few were on land we could see hundreds out on the water. I managed to get a few shots of the little guys but nothing like your photos.

  2. Thank you Del. I will be heading out to Lunga at the end of May and hope to get a different aspect of the seabirds!
