Scarborough, Dull, Dark, Drab, Drizzle! - 6th December 2018

Some of the 16 Waxwings in Scarborough

Having dropped Heather off at Scarborough Market this morning, I headed down to the harbour to see if anything was about. The problem was it was still rather dull, dark and with a hint of drizzle! However, the harbour entrance produced four Common Scoter, four Shags, two Red Throated Divers, two Guillemots and Great Crested Grebe. Not a bad haul but the light was terrible! Time for a bacon buttie and coffee but when I returned only the Grebe remained!

The drizzle increased so I abandoned the harbour and headed up to the Seamer Road retail park where varying numbers of Waxwings have been recorded. With an open mind, I entered B&Q car park and quickly spotted several Waxwing in the trees adjoining Seamer Road. It was drizzling still so I did a quick count - 16 Waxwings! Lovely to see even though they were dull in the weather conditions. Occasionally, some of the Waxwings came down to lower Rowan trees but were constantly disturbed by shoppers (you'd think they would have something better to do!).

  1. The weather is the same here Kevin, but you still get more sightings than I get in 3 months. Keep it up. Mike.
