A Quieter Day on Bempton Cliffs - 9th December 2018

Fulmar

A lovely early December day with sunshine and blue sky but a strong and challenging south west wind kept the temperature down. A Barn Owl hunted over the Dell and top fields early morning but was not seen later. A Stonechat flitted briefly in the bushes on the hedge path and again disappeared! Approaching the cliffs a Kestrel hunted. Today, the cliffs were silent, there was no guttural growling meaning the Guillemots had gone back out to sea and only three were seen throughout the day, in flight and on the sea. Two Peregrines were seen over Jubilee Corner viewpoint. Thank goodness for the Fulmars, although these were in reduced numbers compared to previous weeks and all were in flight. At least they gave me some "birds in flight" practice!

Jackdaws in flight

And Herring Gull

So what was about today?

The cliffs are always fantastic and without birds displayed their unashamed naked beauty (from Bartlett Nab)
