East Lea and Filey Dams - 1st September 2018

Grey Heron on East Lea

A lovely morning to be out reasonably early with a light mist over the water quickly clearing. I started off at the "members only" East Lea reserve CLICK HERE at the back of Filey Dams. Heavy overnight dew ensured that I ended up wet as I made my way through the thick vegetation! Mental note - next time take a machete! I was not to be disappointed at East Lea in that I managed to get a Yorkshire tick with Curlew Sandpiper, distant, in the company of Ringed Plover, Green Sandpiper, Ruff and six Dunlin. A Greenshank was slightly nearer the hide with a single Wigeon.

On to Filey Dams where again the birds were distant. At least three Greenshank, four Black Tailed Godwits, seven Snipe, four Green Sandpipers, one Common Sandpiper, two Redshanks and another Wigeon were to be found. I began to wish I had my big 500mm lens with converters but chose to carry my lighter 400mm and scope!
