Wryneck at Bempton Cliffs - 5th September 2018

Today was the sort of day that migrant birds turn up on, rather gloomy with an almost constant drizzle forming a mist where the land meets the sea. Mid afternoon a message was received indicating that a Wryneck had been found in the dell area of Bempton Cliffs. Now, I'm not a twitcher but this is my "bogey" bird so I just had to go! Arriving at the dell, a number of birders were searching for the Wryneck which was not showing. The whole dell was surrounded by birders hoping for a show. After about twenty minutes, one of the birders turned around and there was the Wryneck watching us all search for it! Not ideal light with a grey/brown bird against a dull grey cloud but it showed well. A fantastic "lifer" for many birders present! Now for a new "bogey" bird - Bee-eater, but that will have to wait until next summer. Some, I suppose will say I'm now a twitcher, such shame!
