Draycote Water this Morning - a day of "ones"!

Watch out ducks, I've arrived!

Draycote Water has been producing some good birds again this week, so I had to return in the hope of something special turning up. Yet again I was to be disappointed despite my early arrival at 0600. Indeed, it was to be a day of "ones"!

Starting in Thurlaston, I walked along Farborough Bank to the Inlet and back. Farborough Bank was again most productive with the spit producing Dunlin (1), Ringed Plover (1), Little Ringed Plover (1) and Common Sandpiper (1). Hensborough Bank produced another Common Sandpiper with another near the inlet. The inlet had the long staying Goosander and an adult Yellow Legged Gull. My return along Farborough Bank eventually produced a Richard Mays, with only scope views of a Bob Hazell, well under steam, on his circuit of the water! A single Hobby over Toft Shallows was a treat as was the single Greenshank in Toft Shallows. Breaking the singles mould, at least six Yellow Wagtails flitted around the sailing club roof, c100 House Sparrows were in the hedge behind the wind surfing area and c200 House Martins & Swallows were taking an interest in the dry mud near the picnic area.

Desperate! A Black Headed Gull

All was not lost, though - Greenshank
