Bempton Circular Walk - 5th June 2018

Guillemot

The weather of late on the east coast has been rather horrid with almost constant dark clouds, sea frets and cool temperatures. Today, (hopefully) the mould has broken and the sun appeared between breaks in the clouds and temperatures rose! It was a good day to walk from Bempton, through Buckton, up Hoddy Cows Lane to Buckton Cliffs, along Bempton Cliffs and back to Bempton down Cliff Lane. An excellent walk of about four miles. Oh and I had our dog Symphony in tow as well!

Hoddy Cows Lane was rather quiet with a few singing Yellowhammers

Common Whitethroat also called out

"You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of Barley". I just love the patterns made by the wind blowing through Barley fields and will look forward to when it ripens gold!

Approaching the Buckton cliff tops, a vista of colour greets you!

On the cliff top, I found my first Painted Lady Butterfly of the year!

Overhead, two Peregrines scanned the cliffs, but I only managed an image of one!

The wind on the cliff tops was strong enough to observe the seabirds hovering, a photographers dream! Good to practice taking birds in flight images - something I need a lot of!

And, of course, Gannets

Overall, a great walk, that is not too strenuous.

  1. Years ago the warren at the top of Hoddy Cows Lane would have been teeming with rabbits. Our kids used to love to watch them.

  2. Not many seen now, Vivian. Pity.
