RSPB Skua & Shearwater Cruise on the Yorkshire Belle

Sooty Shearwater

The call of the cliffs has been over ruled by the call of the sea this morning! A trip out on the Yorkshire Belle for the Skua and Shearwater cruise. A mixed weather morning combining dull grey with sunshine, a few spots of rain, sea fret and a choppy sea! This was the first time out on the Yorkshire Belle for Heather and myself and we did not really know what to expect! Personally, I found photography very challenging, choppy seas, balance and other birders, joined to ensure that most of my images were deleted! The day started well in Bridlington Harbour with at least four Purple Sandpipers amongst the Turnstone on the north wall (first this Autumn). Several Swifts were seen overhead at sea and at least two Arctic Skua's flew distantly. Razorbills and Guillemots in small numbers dived as the boat passed but calls on Manx Shearwater failed me! The best bird for me was a life tick in Sooty Shearwater!
