Swallows
Having had a serious rethink about my Blog, promulgated by some concerned followers, I have decided to continue it, in its present format. For those who have criticised me / it, remember that it is my Blog, that I share for the enjoyment of all.
Today, I visited Draycote Water, parking in Thurlaston, as I arrived at 0600. This enabled me to walk the perimeter without too much disturbance, hoping that yesterdays Roseate Tern might still be holding on. Of course it wasn't - leaving me smarting that I received no messages of its presence yesterday, and only found out when I looked on RBA website. Maybe I am learning the difference between being accepted or just being tolerated in the local birding cliques.
Not a bad birding day with 56 bird species (complete list at end of post) being seen, despite the dull and misty morning. Of note, was the sheer number of Swifts and Hirundines, literally thousands, in the trees, on the rocks and of course in the air. Warblers were in full song, with Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Willow Warbler and year ticks of Garden Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat. Waders included three Common Sandpipers by the inlet and two mobile Oystercatchers. Wheatears numbered seven, in various locations. Ten Common Scoters were in the centre, as were seven Common Terns. Raptors included Kestrel and Buzzard. A single Whimbrel flew over Toft Bay but failed to make land due to the bank fishermen.
On my way home, a Hobby was on a fence post in a field on the approach to Dunchurch.

So glad you are carrying on Kevin, I always enjoy your blog even though I dont always comment. I can't possibly imagine what anyone could find to criticise!
ReplyDeleteI feel your hurt and sympathise regarding the Roseate Tern.
Lovely photos, my favourites are the Wheatears especially as I haven't seen any this year! I also love the first photo of the Swallows in the tree.
Thank you Jan! If i'm honest, I would really miss the blog! There are a lot of Wheatears passing through at the moment, so you may still get to see some.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you reconsidered Kevin. It seems that blogging has changed quite a bit these days, lots of choice around, many of them just talking rubbish (like mine really), however this is one of the good ones, besides where else would I get my Wark's news from.
ReplyDeleteLong live regional blogging.
Cheers Martyn. I love blogging but things were getting a bit OTT! Looks like i'm being excluded from the grapevine locally! Still its nice to find your own birds and i've never been a twitcher! The Rosy Tern smarts though!
