WALRUS!!! Scarborough Harbour - 31st December 2022

WOW! What a surprise, and what a way to end the year, with a Walrus, showing really well in Scarborough Harbour! Normally, I would be attempting to capture the last sunrise of 2022, but rain, heavy cloud and dull conditions stopped that idea! However, reports came in overnight, with images, of a Walrus on a jetty in Scarborough Harbour! Motivation clicked in and dash in the dark to Scarborough ensued, with an ultimate of a life tick, an unbelievable Walrus, literally a few feet away! The Walrus had plenty of protection from the police and volunteers from the BDMLR, Sea Life Centre et.al. Local street lighting gave some illumination but the following images were taken in very dull light. Investigations believe the Walrus is Thor, who has been hanging around on the south coast for a while. I'm glad there wasn't a spectacular sunrise!

Christmas Sojourn, Seaham - 26th December 2022

"Tommy", Seaham

Having spent the morning in Seaburn, we headed down the coast to Seaham in order to see the fantastic "Tommy" statue. The downside was attempting to get images away from the crowds that seemed determined to get "selfies" et.al. directly under Tommy. You had to be quick!

Down on the harbour, another statue stood out, that of the "Coxwain"

And a combination of major occupations, sea faring and mining

Christmas Sojourn, Seaburn - 26th December 2022

Seaburn Beach

What could be better than a good quiet walk on the beach on boxing day? Arriving in Seaburn, there seemed to be a lot of people strangely dressed and heading towards the beach. Yes, you've guessed it, we arrived just before the annual boxing day dip! It was packed! Brave or foolish, it was for a good charitable cause.

Away from the dip, it was possible to find some quietness

The splendid volunteers from the RNLI arrived to monitor those participating in the dip, hopefully without need for action

Christmas Sojourn, Sacriston, Durham - 25th December 2022

A Christmas Day morning walk through Sacriston Woods. When the colliery closed c1985, nature has taken over and a series of pleasant walks are now available. Not too muddy, which is always a plus point!
