Guttural Growling on Bempton Cliffs can only mean one thing....! - 6th January 2019

Bridled Guillemot

The Guillemots are back in town! Providing a focal point for visitors with about 5000+ on the ledges, in flight and in large sea rafts. During the winter months, Guillemots return to the cliffs in varying numbers and for varying lengths of time.

The day started dull and grey but brightened with sunny periods. Temperatures were mild and the wind was light south westerly.

Best bird of the day was mid afternoon when a female Black Redstart appeared on the cliff ledges below Bartlett Nab. It was mobile and soon lost to sight.

So what was seen through out the day?

Guillemots (Interestingly all in summer plumage)

Fulmars

"Bempton" looking good! (I'd love to know the history behind this rock!).
