A little bit of brightness in the gloom! - 3rd & 4th January 2019

Snow Bunting

It is good that the weather over the last few days has been dry but the heavy cloud and poor light has been very challenging! Images are turning out very grainy due to high ISO settings making me wonder if it is worth posting them? At this time of year, birding "ticks" come thick and fast but seeing the birds doesn't necessarily mean that good images can be obtained. Distance and light can be a big problem!

On Thursday, we headed out to Barmston and walked along the beach towards Fraisthorpe. The beach held Sanderling and Dunlin but three Grey Plovers were a treat. Best of all though were two Hooded Crows, a three year tick and my first in Yorkshire!

Today, Friday, we headed out to Carr Naze, Filey where within minutes o arriving, were treated to five fantastic Snow Buntings, feeding on the path and very obliging! Pity about the gloom again!

In the bay, adjacent to the Brigg, a Great Northern Diver hunted well and took ages to devour it's rather large fish. Pity it was so distant!
