Wood Sandpiper
An interesting wander around Filey this morning, hoping to gather a few wader year ticks. Starting at Filey Dams, a Black Tailed Godwit showed well but the hoped for Ruff, Wood Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper were not showing. Perhaps East Lea was looking after them! Arriving at East Lea gate, disaster! The lock has been changed and my key wouldn't fit (mental note to obtain a replacement!). So no East Lea! Decided to have a look around Parish Wood and the Old Tip area as we hadn't been to this area, a nice but very hot walk towards the cliffs but not a lot of wildlife. A very pale Barn Owl did show well. Breakfast called and the café on Coble Landing obliged! We headed home and just as I packed my camera gear away, what's app informed me that my target birds were showing again at the Dams! Typical! I headed back, but would they still be around? This late morning visit was much more productive with female Ruff, Wigeon, two Black Tailed Godwits, a Barnacle Goose and a Common Sandpiper amidst many Geese and Lapwings. Then, from the direction of East Lea, two small waders flew in - yes! The Wood Sandpiper with a Dunlin!
On the nest!
An obliging Coot
We all have friends like this! Grey Heron
Initially one, but joined by a second, Black Tailed Godwit
