Ten Minutes! Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk - 30th November 2014

Black Swan

Today we headed to Strumpshaw Fen in Norfolk with the good folk of the RSPB Coventry & Warwickshire Group. We travelled through fog and mist, arrived to sunshine and ended with showers! Checking at the reception, we soon learned that there was "not a lot about" and headed to the Fen Hide where most of the day was spent. Normally the term ten minutes in birding relates to comments of "you should have been here ten minutes ago"! Today, the first ten minutes in the hide was brilliant! An obliging Black Swan, a flyby Bittern, an Otter, Marsh Harriers, Bearded Tits and Cettis Warbler! Here on not a lot! Photography was challenging but hey ho, if it was easy it wouldn't be fun! I was suffering the effects of "man flu" (actually man cold!) so was happy not to wander too far.
