Drake Teal

An early morning visit to Brandon Marsh this morning was bright but still seasonally fresh in the easterly blow. The saying that one Swallow does not make a summer was certainly true, but it was nice to see my first of the year near the wind pump. A single Sand Martin over Teal Pool was also my first of the year, as were the three Little Ringed Plovers on East Marsh Pool. Three Oystercatchers were quite mobile around the site. The path to the Wright hide had seven Lesser Redpoll and four Siskin obligingly feeding on the ground. A solitary Redshank commuted between Teal Pool and East Marsh Pool and despite a good search, only three Common Snipe were found. Two female and one male Shelduck were on East Marsh Pool and three Cettis Warblers were singing. Meeting Keith Y, he informed me that he had heard what could have been a Willow Warbler near the wind pump, and he later texted me that an Osprey had flown over and a Green Sandpiper was on Teal Pool. The recordings book in the visitor centre mentioned a Firecrest on 6th April!!! A day list can be found at the end of this post.
